GallopNYC Supporters to Host Equestrians at Maxwell's Plum in Wellington

New York, N.Y. – March 27, 2022 – Amanda Cain, Judy Sloan, Constance Hunter and Jenny Oz LeRoy, all supporters of GallopNYC, will host a reception at Maxwell's Plum in Wellington, Florida, March 30 from 6-8 p.m. The purpose of the event is to introduce GallopNYC, New York City's premier therapeutic riding program to equestrians and friends, many with New York connections.

GallopNYC serves children and adults with disabilities and a community of veterans and seniors at three locations in New York City. The organization helps hundreds of New Yorkers each week with life-enhancing therapeutic horsemanship.

The programs at GallopNYC provide measurable benefits for people with developmental, emotional, social and physical disabilities. Sessions with PATH International-certified instructors teach new skills, inspiring riders to live life as fully, productively and independently as possible. GallopNYC serves low-income and middle-income families and provides therapeutic horsemanship at subsidized rates.

During the Wellington event, New York Times journalist and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Maslin Nir will read from her latest book, "The Flying Horse," the first in a series of fictional middle-grade novels inspired by real horses and the people who love them. Nir, an avid supporter of GallopNYC, is also the author of the memoir "Horse Crazy: The Story of a Woman and a World in Love with an Animal."

“My new book "The Flying Horse" follows a girl, a lot like me, who struggles with a hidden disability, and the horse who heals her,” Maslin Nir said. “GallopNYC offers the healing power of horses to the most vulnerable New Yorkers every single day. It is an honor to support this incredible organization.”

Attendees can bid for the chance to experience the ride at GallopNYC's Central Park Promenade on May 21. During the Promenade, GallopNYC riders and supporters will traverse the historic Central Park bridle path on horseback.

"We are excited to introduce new friends to GallopNYC and to visit with supporters at the Wellington event," said GallopNYC Executive Director Marcos Stafne. "We are grateful to Amanda, Judy, Constance, Jenny and our sponsors for hosting what will be a wonderful evening. Many thanks to Sarah for taking the time to share a glimpse into her new book. We look forward to meeting everyone and sharing the GallopNYC story."
