Prisma Receives Funding to Support the Final Stages of Developing Equine Full-Body CT Imaging Technology

Gainesville, Fla. – Feb. 10, 2022 – Prisma, a company transforming equine imaging and diagnostics by developing full-body robotically-controlled imaging technology, has received funding to bring its breakthrough product one step closer to readiness for the veterinary marketplace. Prisma has received a lead investment to its current $4 million seed round from Kirenaga Partners. The proceeds from this round will fund the final development and commercialization of Prisma’s ground-breaking technology that will revolutionize the equine medical industry by improving how horses are diagnosed and treated. Prisma’s technology represents the only system that is able to capture CT and radiographic images of the entire anatomy of a standing, conscious horse.

Established in 2016, Prisma’s founder and chief executive officer, Michael Silver, was the primary funding source for the venture. In 2019 Prisma received funding from Triple Ring Technologies, Prisma’s co-development partner and technical lead.

“The investments from Triple Ring, an industry leader in radiographic and advanced system development and being funded and institutionally vetted by Kirenaga represent a strong vote of confidence in the validity of the technology that we’ve developed and the viability of achieving commercial success,” Silver said.

Kirenaga’s founder and general partner, David Scalzo, said, “We believe the lucrative equine industry is at an inflection point and that the demand for a more effective way of protecting these valuable assets through better diagnostics will increase exponentially. Prisma’s technology represents the best solution that solves the major shortcomings in horses’ care, safety and quality of life. This has tremendous upside!”

Kirenaga is the investment manager for the Gainesville Technology Fund, whose mission is to provide capital to build Gainesville, Florida’s local tech environment.

“Since its inception, Prisma has been in regular contact with several research universities, large equine veterinary practices, and major equine industry organizations, all of which are very supportive and enthusiastic about the technology we’ve developed and the benefits it will provide to the equine industry,” Silver said. “We have interest and letters of intent from some of the most prestigious practices in the country.”

Silver added, “We’re thrilled to be back in Gainesville to be a part of its fantastic business and tech ecosystem.”

ABOUT PRISMA

Prisma has developed a novel system that is capable of providing both digital radiographic and CT imaging of the entire anatomy of a conscious, weight-bearing horse. This development is a material improvement upon existing imaging employed in the equine industry and will displace traditional CT imaging. Current CT technology requires the horse to be anesthetized (Knocked out) and is not capable of imaging the horses’ entire anatomy, including the high-mass regions (axial skeleton, abdomen, hips and pelvis). The capabilities of Prisma’s system represent an opportunity to provide better diagnostics, performance, care and promote the health and welfare of horses compared to current imaging technology.

In addition to recognizing the merits of developing a ground-breaking, highly beneficial diagnostic technology, Prisma is equally committed to supporting the humane treatment of animals in all categories, including our beloved pets, animals that live in captivity (in zoos and nature habitats), and in our food chain.
