Myakka City, Fla.- Oct. 23, 2022 - Adult amateur Hannah Lisec sold Ibrianko as a 6-year-old but his new owner Deborah Cartisano thought her big, beautiful 2013 KWPN (Tiestse D-Melanie W, Belisar) gelding's power and big gaits required some more training, so she sent the horse back to Lisec for a bit more homework.

On Sunday, Lisec and Ibrianko rode to a first-place finish with a 64.765% in the CDIAm Intermediate I Freestyle at the TerraNova Dressage II CDI4*/CDI-W show held at the TerraNova Equestrian Center in Myakka City, Florida.

The duo of Lisec and Ibrianko also placed first with a 67.640% in the recent CDIAm Intermediate I Freestyle at the World Equestrian Center (WEC) September Dressage show and first in the CDIAm Prix St. Georges with a 63.941%.

"He's 9 now, and this is his first year showing at all," Lisec said. "So this is our second CDI together and we've done some little shows and then we went to regionals," Lisec said. "He did well there, but the nerves kind of got the best of him for a little while. Now he's really gaining a lot of confidence and coming to facilities like this. He's letting me actually ride him now and he's not so focused on everything else that's going on. He said, 'OK, what do you want?' And the confidence is just building."

When asked about Ibrianko's strengths, the trainer said he has a fantastic passage. "He's got a big motor and he is just now learning how to develop it and really engage without looking around at everything. And his changes were the weak thing that we had to work on but now, he could do changes all day long. He's got a great half-pass and he's just got the presence and he's beautiful. He's probably the most gorgeous horse I've seen."

CDI* Intermediate I Freestyle
Stephanie Pair-Kavitz and I Crack de la Vigne (Bon Bravour-Chardonnay, Jazz), her own 2013 KWPN gelding, danced their way to the win in the FEI Intermediate I Freestyle with a 70.655%.

"That's the second time I've done that music with him," she said of the freestyle music compilation created by Kristen Scott-Crocker from Orlando. Pair-Kravitz designed the choreography herself. "We did that routine for a different horse but did the music just for him because he's such a light, fun little horse. So, the Harry Potter theme was it.

"He's just sweet and nice. He is Harry Potter," she continued. "He's kind of that little geeky nerd who has a superpower because then all of a sudden he does his extended trot and you go, 'Oh, that's in there. Oh my goodness.' I love doing freestyles. If I could just do that, that's all I would do."

Pair-Kravitz has had the gelding she calls Vinny since January and he schools most of the Grand Prix at home. "So he's fairly new to us. And when we bought him in January, he'd never shown past the equivalent of third level in Holland. So, he's done an awful lot in a short amount of time. He's just a cool horse."

"I was really proud of him this weekend," Pair-Kravitz said and mentioned the busy but fun atmosphere at the show grounds with a CCI4*-S eventing show running concurrently. "We do a lot with our horses at home. We go out trail riding and we gallop on the cross-country course.

"He is a little tiny firecracker," she said of her 16.1-hand gelding. "Like the sweetest, most polite horse I've ever met in my entire life. He would never, ever hurt anything or anyone. But he's a little firecracker."

CDI2* Intermediate II
Eline Eckroth rode Daphne, a 2011 Oldenburg mare (Diamond Stud-D'Amore, De Niro) owned by Connie Duff Wise, to claim first in the CDI2* Intermediate II on Sunday with a 64.735%. They earned a 61.441% for a second-place finish in the CDI2* Intermediate A on Saturday.

"Yesterday, she was hot in there and distracted," Eckroth said. "So we came out in the dark at 7 a.m. and schooled a little bit and she got more confident. Then we only did a brief warm-up and she went in there and did her thing.

"It's Sunday," she continued. "We've been here since Wednesday with her and she is not tired. She could do four more days of this."

The duo also had excellent results at the September show at the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala. They earned a 65.235% in the CDI3* Intermediate II for the win and 64.824% for another first-place finish in the CDI3* Intermediate A.

"We've been doing the medium tour," Eckroth said. "This is the third CDI and she's not quite ready to do the full Grand Prix yet."

Eckroth trains with FEI 4* judge Lee Tubman who is a stickler for focused riding. "That's been the biggest change for me because I used to ride down centerline and still be smiling at the people next to the arena and go, 'Oh my God, you're here too.' Then, I'm halting at X," she laughed. "I have to focus on how I'm riding the halt."

TerraNova Equestrian Center's Hannah Herrig Ketelboeter Competes at Home
TerraNova Equestrian Center president Hannah Herrig Ketelboeter took the opportunity to show at her own venue at TerraNova Dressage II. As a former eventer, she is transitioning over to dressage. Competing in First level Freestyle, Third and Fourth levels, Ketelboeter earned three blue ribbons and three second-place ribbons on her four horses, including Don Bosco, her own 2002 Hanoverian gelding (DonBosco-Argentin).

"They're all a little bit different," she said of her horses. "The one I've had the longest, he's 20 this year and I used to event with him through preliminary. Now we're doing dressage. I got my [USDF] Bronze Medal with him and I'm just taking it day-by-day and he feels great and doing what he feels like he can do and [we will] see where that takes us. Then I have one on lease that I completed my Silver Medal scores [on] this weekend, which is really fun. I have a Grand Prix horse that I'm learning with. I'm working with my trainer, Melissa Jackson, to work toward that. My event horse is just coming back from about a year off and this is his first show back and he was awesome and it was really great to have him back."

Ketelboeter said her horses weren't used to the show atmosphere over the weekend with the excitement of concurrent dressage and event shows. "They were a little bit nervous and spooky, but I did my best to just give them confidence and have fun," she said.

Ketelboeter was pleased with the event’s outcome. “Thank you for supporting us,” she said. “This is only our second year and we're super thrilled with the turnout this year and really excited for what's to come.”
